We receive our food donations through the Des Moines Area Food Bank and the Emergency Feeding Program. The Emergency Feeding Program provides us with food from Amazon Fresh, Starbucks, etc.

If I’m a staff or faculty and I access the pantry, am I taking away from the student? 2018-09-04T10:15:21+00:00

No. It’s really important that we remember how eating regular, healthy meals benefits everyone. We encourage you to experience the pantry – you can tell folks what to expect, you can play a role in helping to normalize usage, and, there are many staff and faculty who are impacted by the high cost of living and shortage or housing and food access in our community.

Yes, we are accepting non-perishable food donations and hygiene products. If you would like to make a donation please visit the pantry, call the Highline Student Support Center front desk at (206) 592-3802, or email communitypantry@highline.edu.

See past collaborations we have done with Highline students down below!

In Spring 2022, Dr. Covington’s Community Psychology students each took a box and created wonderful meals. Below you can find cooking demo videos using the ingredients provided in the boxes.

Community Psychology looks at systemic oppressions and barriers to equity embedded within our society as causal factors for problems in wellbeing for communities and individuals. One barrier to healthy wellbeing that was explored in the course was the issue of food justice. Community Psychology projects often require action-oriented efforts to make sustainable change within the community. Students in the class partnered with the Community Pantry at Highline to learn more about the principles of food justice through a  service-learning experience.
